Sparks Gallery is happy to clearly show the perform of Annalise Neil this summer. We have been exploring the theme of “imagination” in our exhibitions this year, and Neil’s function is a wonderful instance of how the advancement of advanced thoughts can be brought to actual physical form by a unique vision.

Neil’s cyanotype and watercolor is effective are conceptually pushed, with inspiration coming from both equally recognizable topics like mother nature and animals, to abstract, philosophical topics like quantum idea, notion, and time. In individual, Neil has been investigating the function of physicist Carlo Rovelli, psychologist and economist Daniel Kahneman, Professor of Forest Ecology Suzanne Simard, and essayist Rebecca Solnit.

Beginning with concepts prompted from exploration, Neil processes these topics in her sketchbook, composing down quotations and theoretical diagrams, which are then edited down to form the visual composition of the piece.

After she is contented with the visualization period, Neil begins the cyanotype method: “Taking photos through my in depth travels and time invested in nature has allowed me to construct a library of images that I have subsequently turned into hand-minimize, personal negatives. I have hundreds of them grouped into groups these kinds of as mushrooms, birds and plants, which I use to make my cyanotype compositions. Soon after completing the photographic stage of the work–which usually consists of complex, sequential exposures–I may possibly hire bleaching and firming to change the shade. I then use watercolor paint to sharpen and enrich formal traits and to weave in narrative features.”

Neil hopes her operate will support motivate public discourse close to these subject areas, especially what it usually means to be human in an interconnected world: “… I am keenly fascinated in discussing states of consciousness and link. All attributes of all factors are relational, and life is only achievable by means of a collaborative symphony—nothing exists independently. Every single living point is a sophisticated, multidimensional universe that interacts with other folks to kind a prismatic web of energy. I endeavor to make do the job that will lead to contemplation and reflection, and that invitations a thoughtful assessment of our partnership to reality and our environment.”
