In the final exhibition of the calendar year at Sparks Gallery, Stefanie Bales’ solo exhibition examines the theme of “imagination” via a visible exploration of collective unconscious. Amor Terrae: Letters to the Wild is the end result of yrs of investigate and exploration into Gestalt concepts of visible perception, the collective subconscious, and the artist’s personal intuition and point of view on our interactions with the natural planet.

All of Stefanie Bales’ perform reflects on the surreal, ethereal, and metaphysical condition of daydreaming, and the fragmented methods in which we understand memories. Bales attracts and expands on this experience in her practice, producing majestic scenes that experience concurrently particular and ubiquitous. Her function reminds us of that collective emotion that we all share when witnessing a superb sunset — the profound acknowledgment that we all share the very same sky. None of the landscapes are geographically distinct, instead, they are composites of quite a few topologies blended harmoniously into a single more substantial “place”.

About the creation of her pieces, Bales clarifies, “I’ve developed and honed an authentic approach that I use to compose significantly of my work.  My approach is identical to collage, but in its place of reduce and paste,  I’m using an unique ‘ink transfer’ method to transfer bits of texture and imagery onto the canvas which I then paint in, about, and all over, responding intuitively to the transferred piece as I go on to establish out imagery and variety the bigger narrative and composition.  My goal is that the viewer sees the function as a whole, and it isn’t until eventually even further investigation that the incongruities that give it its ‘dream-like’ features are seen.”

The show’s title, Amor Terrae: Letters to the Wild, reflects Bales’ appreciation for the items of nature: the excellent shades established by the soaring and location of the solar, the tenor and texture of the ocean, and the peaceful motion of palms and petals in the wind. These performs are Bales’ endeavor to make tangible and lasting all of the spectacular and ineffable factors in lifestyle that are so straightforward to miss or to take for granted.
