RE/SISTERS Talks: Joyful Militancy and Protest

To complement the Barbican Artwork Gallerys recent RE/SISTERS exhibition exploring the part of women in protesting ecological destruction, a general public programme of RE/SISTERS Talks incorporates Joyful Militancy and Protest, an celebration bringing alongside one another artists, photographers and lecturers for an afternoon and evening of talks and presentations ‘digging into the previous and current of innovative feminist dissent’.

The co-operative womens images agency Structure, started 40 yrs back, documented imaginative acts of civil disobedience at Greenham Frequent and main members Maggie Murray, Melanie Mate and Joanne OBrien will explore their apply with Dr Noni Stacey.

Gallerist and curator Jane England then explores the movie, audio and photographic archive of Susan Hillers 1973 do the job Road Ceremonies, in which Hiller and around 120 participants employed mirrors reflecting daylight to draw a continuous circle throughout the city landscape of West London. Her presentation will involve screening the previously unseen movie footage of the occasion.

The event will end with a discussion amongst artists and thinkers Poulomi Basu, Nina Wakeford, Anna Feigenbaum and the RE/SISTERS Curator, Alona Pardo. The exhibition carries on till 14 January 2024.
